About Marissa

I received my Masters in Counseling & Human Development with a focus on clinical mental health from Lindsey Wilson College. Since then I have worked with individuals who experience issues related to eating disorders, disordered eating, developmental trauma/family of origin, emotional neglect, anxiety, and depression. I take a relational approach to therapy and integrate humanistic, existential, attachment, and mindfulness-based modalities. I am trained in Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E.) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy which is an alternative modality to traditional talk therapy.

When working with clients with traumatic experiences, instead of being taught how to cope skillfully with painful experiences and feelings, many of us are taught to numb, hide, or ignore them. Often this actually intensifies our suffering: and it doesn't have to be that way. I believe that everyone deserves support and guidance as they navigate the trauma and difficult experiences of being human. I provide a safe space where clients can express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions without judgment. And don't worry, this is not a "good vibes only" zone. Feel free to come to me with whatever totally acceptable vibes you're actually feeling.

When I'm not working I'm probably hanging out with my cats, watching Netflix while doing a paint by number, practicing yoga, or at a concert.
